This was my first visit to the Gairloch/Wester Ross area, and hopefully won’t be my last! As a midwifery student, a 3-week rural placement was a daunting prospect with the geographical aspect and the potential to commute 60 miles (yes, 60 miles) between bases in Gairloch, Lochcarron and Ullapool. However, navigating the roads and avoiding the sheep (even the cows some days) became routine and one I will miss when back in Aberdeen. Somehow dodging sheep on the A96 doesn’t have the same appeal!

The chalet has been the perfect retreat after long commutes and I couldn’t have hoped for better accommodation to call my home for 3 weeks. From spectacular views on a crisp November day, to walking down to the beach at the bottom of the road and greeting the sheep by the gate, Ceol na Mara is one of a kind. Even my family used the excuse of a spare room for a visit!

Definitely going to miss the scenic views Wester Ross has to offer, not to mention the stress-free nature of the place, one I’ve been lucky to experience.

My sixth visit to beautiful Melvaig, this time with husband, toddler and baby in tow! Never fails to delight.

Picnic and seal watching at Mellon Udrigle – still one of my favourite places ever. Gairloch beach, and building forts on the beach at the bottom of the garden.

See you next year!

We have had a great time at Ceol na Mara; thank you for the warm welcome.

Great meal at the Inn next door; the local Chinese takeaway one of the best we have ever had.

The beach is great for exploring.

The chalet has all mod cons and very comfy with wonderful views. The locals are friendly and chatty. We shall return!
